1p1p was founded in 2002 by a group of professionals with a vision focused on providing a demonstrably workable means for adults to develop the role of stewards and guardians for future generations into a more global, child oriented focus.
Children are our future. If we want a more peaceful world, it makes sense to work with those who will shape the future - not those who have been shaped by the past.
Over five years of intensive research, consultation and development sustain our activities, our projects and our platform.
We are fully registered (Certificate of Incorporation No.1654222) with an established Board of Trustees and Advisory Group.

“For centuries when children play they have often played at war games. Our violence to and against one and other has awful consequences for millions of people each day. Powerful countries destroy smaller countries, stronger people bully weaker people, violence in the home costs thousands of lives each year, prejudice at school leads to institutional bullying – the layers and cycles are a disgrace. Our violence even threatens the very survival of the Earth as we no longer care which species we wipe out, which ecological system we poison – or do we? Are we at last coming to our senses? Could this century be the defining one in our existence – when we finally strive for One People One Planet.”

Peter Rotgans, Chair of Trust Board
"Tim Berners-Lee is rightly called the Father of the Internet. In a Royal Society lecture, he said it as well as anyone, with a unique authority, that is not simply technical, but also moral and ethical. "We now have the ability to communicate and build a society in which mutual respect, understanding and peace between peoples and nations can occur at all levels by finding a balance between the diversity and commonality in our rich world." Anyone who shares some of that vision and who has seen the astonishing ease with which young children inhabit the digital age has to be inspired by the possibilities of building what they need and want to interact, share and connect."

Vivienne Wright, Founder and Executive Trustee
"Our children are our future. They are the ones who will inherit the world we as stewards and guardians hold in trust for them. If we accept this simple thought and take a global look at the current state of affairs, that is a sobering thought! It is up to us to give them the opportunity to come together to design the future they will inherit. I spend a lot of time with the kids ... and I am constantly amazed by the clarity and the passion with which they express their disempowerment and angst, and their dreams for a brighter, more positive future. Right now we adults hold the future in our hands - will we take a responsible attitude towards this, and give the children their rightful place as burgeoning 'Citizens of the World'??? Can we afford not to take this opportunity seriously???"

Alan Jones LLB, Founding Trustee and Secretary/Treasurer
"One People One Planet is unique in that it is child focused and child-driven. Never before has there been the means to engage the views of the world's children; to see what they might achieve in changing the face of the world. It all comes down to a simple premise ... If we want a more peaceful world then we should empower the children and give them a voice."

Findlay Herbert MSc(Hons), MBA,CMC, Trustee
"The current generation of adults has repeatedly demonstrated that it is unable to create a world where people can co-exist in peace and in harmony with the environment. The rapid developments in communications technology mean that communication around the planet has never been easier. It is easy to see how this idea will grow, when children can see and talk to each other and develop friendships that transcend all manner of boundaries. There is no adult or political or ideological agenda with One People One Planet projects. We will hear the dreams and wishes of the children, and their united voice for the future of their world for the first time."

Tim Jago, Trustee
“In Poland I observed the effects of the Cold War. Closed borders and restrictions on radio and television meant young peoples' reality extended just a few hundred kilometres and they were generations behind their contemporaries. In a Pakistani village I met families divorced from near relatives because militarised zones made it impossible for them to physically connect. I discovered one or two teens had been sponsored laptop computers. They shared this technology, opening up a wider world for many. Both experiences impressed on me that technology is a valuable form of human connectivity. It also rammed home the fact that generations of young people have been on the receiving end of adult induced, politically motivated, highly divisive agendas ."

“Children are not so blinkered by differences that may exist, such as race or religion. As the 1p1p network continues to grow and evolve I can see it becoming more and more valuable, both in schools for the children, and for the world at large”

"We are educating our children for a future that we cannot know. However we might predict that the future will be global and technological. What amazing challenges this poses to educators."

Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba, Mayor of Hiroshima and President of Global Mayors for Peace
"I am proud that my city and our children are taking a leading part in building this powerful new movement for peace. This is the beginning of something that could change the world. I will ask the Mayors of the Peace Cities to support this idea because it will be good for their children, good for children everywhere, and good for our planet. This is an important step towards a better future ... this is a good time to begin and One People One Planet is a good way to begin."

“I am hugely excited at the possibilities that association with One People One Planet delivers into the hands of children everywhere - it is a valid and innovative educative opportunity with great potential”

Dr Judy Parr, Associate Professor , PhD, BSc(Hons), MA, DipTch; Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Education, University of Auckland
"As young people develop they are increasingly drawn to their peers. They are similarly drawn to technology. Using technology as a means to fostering links to often diverse peers has to be a win-win situation in terms of promoting greater understanding"
